Costs: Costs include a one-time set-up charge and ongoing charges and depend on capacity (disk storage and data transfer) and the type of access provided. Typical costs might be a $60 one-time set-up charge plus $29 per month for a low-volume web site.
Issues:
Some content developers host web sites on their own servers, often with just a single connection to the Internet. This approach compromises the web site's performance and reliability. Companies that specialize in providing web hosting services can do a much better job of providing the hardware, but usually don't develop the content for the site.
If you make your own arrangements with a hosting provider (or have someone make them on your behalf) then you have better control over the site's content and content development. For example, if you are dissatisfied with the content, you can more easily switch to a different developer.
Recommendations:
Based on your own research, or on the recommendation of someone with good technical evaluation skills, you should choose a good hosting provider, then have someone develop the content for that site, rather than rely on a content developer to provide hosting services.
